Thriving in the absence of sound leadership

A good leader is smart, capable, and has impressive foresight. The presence of a good leader becomes obvious when companies, grow, flourish, and adapt to unpredictable and unprecedented changes. When singing the praises of a good leader, it is important to respect and recognize that good leaders are well sought and vigorously pursued by competitors that know and recognize the value of a good leader.

So what happens when the good leader moves on to bigger challenges and more fulfilling roles? Does the company fold? Does the employees leave because they can can’t predict the unknown of what is to come?

No.

Barack Obama was a good leader. In the bible, Hebrews 11, Barak is mentioned among fellow leaders, Gideon, Samson, Jephthah, David, and Samuel. These leaders overthrew kingdoms, ruled for justice, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, escaped death, and translated their weakness into strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. Barack Obama, during his 8-years as President of the United States exercised sound leadership and made good use of his namesake.

Contrarily, our current president Donald Trump formerly demonstrated sound leadership in business, as evidenced by his financial success. However, the translation of those skills to the leadership required of the leading government official remains uncertain. Like Barack, Trump has lived up to his namesake. The term trump refers to the playing card of the suit chosen to rank above the others, which can win a trick where a card of a different suit has been led.

Does this mean that we should all get our passports and move to other countries?

No.

So what can we do? Where is our power? What is in our control?

When we focus our attention on how we can mobilize instead of false perceptions of powerlessness, we energize innovation, we lift our voices, and we recognize the power of unity amongst the American people. We are all members of one body, the American body. A body is but a tangible object in the absence of its members. We provide life to the body. We mobilize the body. We make the body move.

How will you move today? What torch will you carry towards a more politically aware and involved nation? It’s your choice. Make it.
